How to use Redac Marker, and how to reach us.

What does Redac Marker do?
It auto-detects personal information in photos, screenshots, and PDFs and covers it with opaque black boxes that can’t be undone. Everything happens on your iPhone — nothing is sent anywhere.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. The app does not contact any server, ever. You can use it in airplane mode. The detection models, including Apple Intelligence, run locally on your device.
Why does it require iPhone 15 Pro or newer?
The strongest detector — Apple Intelligence’s Foundation Models, used for context-aware PII like addresses and composite name plus date of birth — runs only on Apple-Intelligence-capable devices. That currently means iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 16 series, and the iPhone 17 series, running iOS 26 or later.
Can a redaction be undone?
No, and that is the point. Pixelation and blur in other tools can sometimes be reversed because the underlying pixels are still present. Redac Marker replaces redacted regions with solid black pixels baked into the output image — there is nothing left to recover. Metadata is also stripped on save.
What about pixelation and blur?
They are available, but gated behind a clear warning that tells you they are not as secure as the destructive default. Use them when you want the visual style and the content is not actually sensitive — for example, anonymising a face in a casual screenshot you are sharing for fun.
How do I redact something from another app?
Tap the share button in Photos, Files, Safari, or any app that supports sharing. Pick Redact from the share sheet. Redac Marker will scan the file, show you what it found, and let you adjust before saving.
Can I add my own words to the redaction list?
Yes. Open the Vocabulary tab and add any term — internal project codenames, client names, family member names. The app will match those words case-insensitively in every future scan, including from the share extension.
What does the app remove from a photo besides PII in the image?
When you save a redacted output, Redac Marker strips EXIF, GPS, and IPTC metadata. Pixel dimensions are preserved because they are part of every JPEG and HEIC file by design and contain no personal information.
What if a detection is wrong, or something is missed?
You have the final say. The review screen lets you toggle any detected item on or off, and you can tap on additional text or regions to redact them manually. The app saves exactly what you confirm — nothing more, nothing less.
Where do redacted files go?
If you started from the photo picker, you can save the result to your Photo Library. If you started from a file, you can share the result via the iOS share sheet or save to Files. The original is never modified.
Is there a paid version?
Version 1.0 is free with no in-app purchases. We are considering a one-time unlock in a future release for features like batch processing. There will be no subscription.
Does Redac Marker share anything with the macOS Redac app or redac.ai?
No. They are separate products and Redac Marker has no account, login, or way to talk to our website. They share a brand and a privacy ethos, not data.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Email support@redac.ai with a short description and, if relevant, your iPhone model and iOS version. Screenshots help — though if the bug is about a redaction, please redact anything sensitive first.
How do I delete my data?
The app stores nothing of yours on our side, so there is nothing for us to delete. Locally, deleting the app from your iPhone removes any vocabulary terms and settings the app kept. The redacted files you saved live wherever you saved them and remain after the app is removed.
